Congratulations Anna Lomshek for receiving "Mentor of the Year" award!
Congratulations to Anna Lomshek RN who was honored at the PSU Spring Nursing Banquet on March 10th for being a recipient of the Outstanding Nurse Preceptor Award! This annual award ceremony honors nurses who have a distinct impact on the nursing students they mentor. The nominations are reviewed by the PSU Nursing faculty and they choose the recipients.
Anna, a registered nurse in Girard Medical Center’s Home Health department, was nominated by PSU student, Sabrina Justesen. Sabrina is an undergraduate nursing student who is working on her clinical rotations. Although she was in the Home Health rotation for only 3 weeks, Sabrina said she learned so much from Anna during the car rides to patients’ homes and from observing her with the patients. “She went above and beyond for all of her patients. She genuinely cared for every person she came in contact with,” Sabrina says. She also appreciated Anna’s teaching approach. “She was patient with me and allowed me to practice my skills. She praised me for tasks I performed well, but also taught me new approaches.”
Anna has been a nurse over 40 years and began at Girard Medical Center in 2002. She said she felt very honored to receive this award. She was humbled by Sabrina’s nomination and said, “It felt like they were talking about someone else – not me!” Anna continued to say how much she appreciated PSU’s nice dinner and ceremony.
Girard Medical Center is very proud of Anna! Sabrina said it well: “Anna is one of those people that you automatically can see how big of a heart she has – she is pretty amazing in every aspect.”
Thank you to the PSU School of Nursing for their “Mentor of the Year Award” program, to Sabrina for taking the time to nominate Anna, and to Anna for being an excellent and memorable nurse mentor!
