Meet Tammi Norris– our new Occupational Therapist at Girard Medical Center. Well – she isn’t actually “new” – she worked for us several years ago and we are so happy to have her back! “Tammi is the perfect fit for our Occupational Therapy Department,” says Ruth Duling, CEO. “The OT position can be a difficult one to fill and we were thrilled when Tammi agreed to join our team.”
Tammi has been pra...cticing OT for 15 years. She first became interested in occupational therapy while working for a family whose son had Autism. “During my time with him I was able to see all disciplines at work, PT, OT and SLP,” Tammi says. “The OT profession really sparked an interest for me, especially working with children.” She was accepted into the OT program at Newman University in Wichita, Ks and graduated in 2003. She started out working for ANW Special Education Coop in Humboldt, Ks. In 2005, Tammi was offered a position at Girard Medical Center where she worked until 2010. Since leaving Girard she has worked in LTC facilities throughout SE Kansas and spent the last 3 years at Oswego Community Hospital.
Tammi and her husband, Jerod, live in St. Paul where they are raising 5 children. Ashton is their oldest, she is a senior in college and attends PSU. Their 9-year old son, Brec, and 7-year old daughter, Anderson, both attend St. Paul Elementary school. They also have two toddlers -- Beau is 3 and Jagger is 1. “To say we have our hands full is an understatement, we keep pretty busy with our family life but wouldn’t have it any other way,” says Tammi.
Tammi reflected that her career up to this point has led her to work with many great people. She has had the opportunity to work with people of all ages and they have been her greatest influences. “They are what keep me coming to work every day and motivate me to be a better therapist,” Tammi explained.
“I am so grateful to have the opportunity to come back to work at Girard Medical Center,” says Tammi. “I wanted a place to call home and I believe that I have found it.” We sure hope so! Ruth Duling agrees. “Tammi is a top-notch therapist and so much more,” says Ruth. “Her obvious passion for her profession makes her a favorite with her patients as she helps and encourages them to achieve their goals.”
“Everyone has been so welcoming and accommodating to me and I am excited for the future of our therapy department and hospital,” Tammi says.
Tammi is a great addition to the GMC family. We are so glad she chose us!
