We are delighted to share some fantastic news that promises to make a significant impact on our community's safety and well-being. The Girard Medical Center Foundation has been awarded a generous $5,000 grant from the esteemed Pritchett Trust.

The Pritchett Trust Grant: A Glimpse Behind the Scenes

The Pritchett Trust, known for its unwavering support of community initiatives, announced its grant recipients at an event held at BMO-Harris Bank in Pittsburg. The competition was fierce, with 50 applications vying for a share of $1.3 million in funding. The Pritchett Trust Grant Committee meticulously reviewed each proposal and, after careful consideration, selected 33 organizations to receive a total of $460,217 in grants.

We are deeply honored to be among the chosen recipients, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Pritchett Trust for recognizing our dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of those we serve.

Empowering Our Community: The 'Stop the Bleed' Program

The Girard Medical Center Foundation has long been committed to promoting the health and safety of our community members, and we are excited to use these funds to support Girard Medical Center's Community Outreach Department. One of the department's important initiatives is educating the community about the 'Stop the Bleed' program, a national public health campaign with a simple yet powerful mission: to teach individuals how to respond effectively to life-threatening bleeding incidents.

What is 'Stop the Bleed'?

'Stop the Bleed' is a vital program designed to empower bystanders to become immediate responders in emergencies involving severe bleeding. Whether it's a car accident, a workplace incident, a natural disaster, or an unfortunate act of violence, knowing how to control bleeding can save lives.

The Power of Training

The heart of the 'Stop the Bleed' program lies in its training courses and workshops. These educational sessions are open to community members, first responders, educators, and anyone eager to acquire life-saving skills. Participants engage in hands-on learning, gaining practical experience in applying pressure to wounds, using tourniquets, and packing wounds to staunch the flow of blood.

Tourniquets: A Critical Tool

A key element of the program is the proper use of tourniquets, a medical device that can be crucial when direct pressure and wound packing alone cannot control bleeding. Participants learn when and how to safely apply a tourniquet, ensuring it is a last resort but one that can be lifesaving when necessary.

Promoting Public Awareness

'Stop the Bleed' campaigns advocate for the availability of bleeding control kits in public places, schools, and organizations. These kits contain essential items such as tourniquets, gauze, bandages, gloves, and scissors, all designed to be user-friendly, even for individuals without medical training.

A Community United

The 'Stop the Bleed' program thrives on partnerships with local healthcare providers, first responders, and community organizations. Together, we strive to make our community safer, one trained individual at a time.

Saving Lives, One Lesson at a Time

In conclusion, the 'Stop the Bleed' program is not just an initiative; it's a lifeline. It equips everyday citizens with the skills and knowledge needed to respond effectively to life-threatening bleeding incidents, empowering them to make a positive difference until professional medical assistance arrives.

We are excited about the possibilities this generous grant from the Pritchett Trust opens up for our 'Stop the Bleed' program and our community's safety. Together, we are taking significant strides towards a safer and healthier future for all. Stay tuned for updates on how this grant will enable us to expand the 'Stop the Bleed' program and save lives in our community.
