Girard Medical Center Announces Partnership with Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Michael Zafuta
Launch the media gallery 1 playerGirard Medical Center (GMC) is excited to announce a new partnership with Dr. Michael Zafuta, MD, an orthopedic surgeon with Freeman Health System in Joplin, MO, which will expand access to high-quality orthopedic and sports medicine care for the Girard community and surrounding areas.
Dr. Zafuta specializes in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine at Freeman Orthopedics & Sports Medicine and serves as the official team orthopedic physician for Pittsburg State University. He brings advanced training and extensive experience in treating knee, shoulder, and sports-related injuries.
Dr. Zafuta received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, followed by a Knee and Shoulder Surgery and Sports Medicine Fellowship at the prestigious Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
Dr. Zafuta will begin offering surgical services at Girard Medical Center starting in 2026. This addition allows patients to receive specialized orthopedic care—from consultation through surgery—close to home.
