Girard Medical Center Foundation Receives $26,000 Mount Carmel Foundation Legacy Grant to Enhance Cardiac Diagnostic Services

Launch the media gallery 1 playerGirard, Kansas — The Girard Medical Center Foundation is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $26,000 grant through the 2026 Mount Carmel Foundation Legacy Grant program, administered by the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas. The funding will support the purchase of five new electrocardiogram (EKG) machines for Girard Medical Center (GMC).
The grant, awarded to Girard Medical Center Foundation (GMCF), will enable Girard Medical Center to replace aging EKG equipment at the end of its useful life and expand access to cardiac diagnostic services across the organization’s Rural Health Clinics and Laboratory Department.
Electrocardiograms are a critical diagnostic tool used to assess heart health, detect cardiac abnormalities, and monitor patients with cardiovascular conditions. The addition of five new EKG machines will enhance the Medical Center’s ability to provide accurate, reliable, and timely cardiac assessments for patients throughout the region.
“This investment in modern cardiac diagnostic technology will have a direct impact on the quality of care GMC can provide,” said Kylie Smith, GMCF Secretary. “By increasing the availability of EKG equipment throughout GMC's clinical areas, they can improve workflow efficiency, reduce patient wait times, and support earlier detection and treatment of cardiovascular conditions.”
