Letter from the Auxiliary President

December 9, 2015

Dear Auxilian:

Well here we are. Another year has just raced by and we are getting ready for another Christmas and a New Year.

Your Auxiliary has had a great year.  Thanks to your efforts and support the Gift Shop has made money and so have our fund raisers.  With money made from many sources and many talents we have supported our employees and their families with scholarships.  We have also been able to donate to charities outside the hospital such as The Alzheimer's Association and to The Children's Advocacy Center in Pittsburg.  The Dietary staff, led by Leanne Ehler,  has been great in baking cinnamon rolls for Mardi Gras and cookies for Free Cookie Day. Thanks to your generosity and that of the hospital staff's we had a great supply of hotel toiletries (shampoo, rinse, body lotion etc.) to take to the Women's Safe house.  We even had enough to add to the gift bags we made for Home Health to take to their clients.  Thank you to those who donated and special thanks to Diana Brooks for getting us such great gift bags.  Marge Jones has made 9 Star War blankets for us.  They don't last long in the gift shop. Also a special thanks to Nora Eng for keeping the gift shop supplied with candy, snacks and gum. These items are the backbone of our gift shop. We are always accepting books which we resell in the Out Patient waiting room.  Cecily Perry took over 60 pounds of "pop tops" to Ronald McDonalds house of Joplin for us. Our Pecan and Cashew sale went well.  Thanks to the diligent and creative efforts of June Christy and the angel making "gift" of Lorena Lewis we are now in the middle of selling ornaments for our "Celebration" tree.  This is a tree in the lobby that "Celebrates" our loved ones both those with us now and those that have passed.  Their names will be published in the December 31st edition of the Girard Hometown News.  If you haven't bought your ornament yet they are still for sale in the gift shop at a cost of $5.00.  We have assisted the Red Cross Blood drive numerous times this year thanks to the efforts of Patty Leeds and the great bunch of volunteers that work with her.  Because of a good Books Are Fun fundraiser, today we gave $250 to Connie Little to use for the hospital sponsored "Christmas Family".  Thank you also to those members who show up every week and keep this Auxiliary going; from Gift Shop workers, to Greeters, to those who sit with patient's families in the outpatient surgery waiting room, to the people who help with billing, collating, Blood drives and by donating.  THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR SUCH A GREAT YEAR!

To celebrate our year and the Christmas Season we will be having our Christmas party on MONDAY, DECEMBER 21 AT NOON IN THE CLASSROOM.  We will be served so please don’t go the lunch room first.  We will be needing a count so please call the gift shop (724-8291) before December 17th.

Remember, dues are due by the end of the year.  Please get your $5.00 to Gene Christy (you can leave it in the gift shop).  Also, Ilene Everitt is in Via Christy Village and will be over the holidays.  Sending a card or dropping by will help to make her feel less lonely.  Also Norma Washington is recovering from a stroke.  She is with her daughter, Debbie.  I am not sure of an address.

I know this is a little wordy but I thought you should know what a dynamic hard working organization you belong to.

Have a Blessed and Joyful Christmas and a wonderful New Year!
