Therapy
Girard Medical Center is committed to serving all patients with decreased mobility, Orthopedic Injuries, Sports Injuries, Orthopedic Surgeries, Neurologic Injuries, Wound Care, Work Related Injuries and Conditioning, and Speech Related Dysfunctions. Our therapy department features state-of-the art equipment and a comfortable, relaxing environment conducive to restoring your health in a timely manner. We provide one-on-one In-Patient, Out-Patient, and Home Health Services.
Physical Therapy (PT) provides services where movement and function are threatened by aging, injury, surgery, disease or environmental factors. Our Physical Therapy department develops an individual plan for each patient to promote the ability to move freely, reduce pain, restore functional mobility and prevent disability. Our team uses customized plans to maximize each patient's mobility and get them back to good health.
Occupational Therapy (OT) involves the therapeutic use of self-care, work, and leisure activities to increase independent function and prevent disability. Some specific areas of treatment include: ADLs (Activities of daily living)-grooming, feeding, dressing, bathing, toileting; use of adaptive equipment-elevated toilet seats, reachers, sock-aids; upper extremity range of motion, strengthening, fine motor coordination, splinting; energy conservation/work simplification techniques; homemaking tasks; vision; and cognitive perceptual tasks. The goal of occupational therapy is to achieve a maximum level of independence by rebuilding important skills and abilities lost as a result of illness, injury, or disability; and by adapting the environment to meet the client's needs.
Speech Therapy (ST) specializes in the treatment of communication disorders, cognition, voice disorders, and swallowing difficulties.
Life Extenders is a program offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm - 7pm to anyone who would benefit from an exercise regime. A CPR-trained PT employee is present and monitors the participants at all times. Participants are offered one-on-one instruction until they are comfortable using the equipment on their own.
Our staff works as a team to provide the highest quality care for our patients. We are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm and we can be reached directly at 620.724.5159. Fax number is 620.724.5291
